CHARLES G. BOYER
Retired, Funeral Director, Embalmer

Charles is a graduate of Desloge High School class of ‘66 and later served in the United States Airforce before being honorably discharged in 1970 due to a knee injury.  After military service, Charles attended the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science.  Following graduation, he joined the family-owned business, working alongside his father Burlin Boyer and his brother Teddy.   This was the beginning of a 40 plus year career that would see many changes within the funeral service industry.   During that 40-year tenure, the Bert Boyer Funeral Home in Leadwood, came under the operation of C. Z.  Boyer & Son when Cousin Bert R. Boyer retired in 1993.   Additionally, the Dave Caldwell Funeral Home in Park Hills, the Hillview Memorial Cemetery and Crematory, and the Taylor Funeral Home in Farmington became an important part of C. Z. Boyer & Son as the owners of these three well known establishments retired.  As a 4th generation funeral director,        Charles, now fully retired, is privileged to step aside as son, Brian Boyer, (5th generation), picks up the reins to continue the family-owned C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home into the future.

Charles and his wife Jeanne reside in Desloge, have two children and four grandchildren.  Together they attend Desloge First Baptist Church and deliver Meals on Wheels in Park Hills and Bonne Terre.  Presently, Charles is active in the St Francois County Rotary Club, church choir and the Desloge 1st Baptist Church Upward Basketball program, coaching the (fast and furious) “Lightning”, and the (high flying) “Eagles”.

Charles has served in various board of director positions including; Desloge and Park Hills Chambers of Commerce, Toastmasters, Habitat for Humanity, Babe Ruth Baseball, Desloge Park Board and most recently, the Ozark Trail Blazers District of Boy Scouts of America.  Awards and honors presented to Mr. Boyer include:  ”Rotarian of the Year”, “Daily Journal Citizen of the Year”, “Daily Journal Businessman of the Year” and the “Senior Service Award” given by then Lt. Governor Mike Parson in the inaugural year of it’s inception.

Today, Charles enjoys serving breakfast from his B & B in Ste. Genevieve, playing trivia, keeping fit with lap swimming at Farmington Civic Center, coaching Upward Basketball and having fun with 4 active grandchildren.
