William James Kure

Mr. William James "Bill" Kure passed away Thursday evening, July 5, 2012, at Parkland Health Center, Farmington, at the age of 85 years, 4 months & 12 days. Bill was born on February 23, 1927, in Kingsford, Michigan, and was the son of Matt Kure and Anna 'Novak' Kure.

Bill was the youngest of 9 children. He grew up in Hermansville, MI., before returning to Kingsford in his Junior year of high school. Bill was Valedictorian of his graduating class at Kingsford High School. After graduation, he immediately enlisted & served in the US Army. After his discharge, he attended & graduated from Michigan Tech in Houghton, MI., with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He was the first in his family to attend & graduate from college.

In 1955, he married the love of his life, Joan Kauzlarich. They made their home in Kingsford, MI., until 1970, when they moved to Farmington. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage until Joan's passing in 2011.

Bill worked for GAF Corporation in Pembine, WI., & Annapolis, MO., until his retirement in 1989.

Bill was an active volunteer in his communities. In Kingsford, he spent many years running bingo for American Martyrs Catholic Church. In Farmington, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He and Joan also organized & ran the St. Joseph Golf Tournament for 25 years. He was also Past-President of the St. Joseph Athletic Association. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Farmington Knights of Columbus Council 12332, & member of the Farmington Benevolent and Protective Order of ELKS #1765. He was a Past-President of the Farmington High School Booster Club and Past-President of the St. Francois Country Club. Bill truly loved to volunteer and help in any way he was capable.

Bill was preceded-in-death by his wife, Joan, his parents, Matt & Anna, his brothers, Nick & Matt, and sisters: Mary, Ida, Kate & Laura.

He is survived by his children: Doug Kure & wife, Jan, of San Angelo, TX; Debbie Busker & husband, Randy, of San Angelo, TX; and Dale Kure & wife, Sheila, of Farmington. Sister: Frances Trekler, of Chicago, IL; Brother: Frank Kure, of Seattle, WA; Grandchildren: Daniel Kure and wife, Mandy, Dru Kure and wife, Becca, of San Angelo; Megan Sower and husband, Jon and Will Busker, of College Station, TX. Chelsey Rubino and husband, Joey and Taylor Pogue, of Ironton, MO; Allison Sedgwick and Samantha White, of Farmington. Great-Grandchildren: Brett and Noah Kure, Joselyn Rubino and Halle Pogue. And the impending arrival of great-grandchildren: Melody Joan Kure, baby boy Kure and baby boy Pogue. He is also survived by many Nieces; Nephews and great friends.

Visitation : Saturday, July 21st - starting @ 9:00 a.m.

Memorial Service : Saturday, 11:00 a.m.

at : St. Joseph Catholic Church, Farmington, with Fr. Rickey Valleroy officiating
