Wanda Brown

Wanda Brown, a cherished educator, beloved mother, and community pillar, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024, at the age of 99. Born on January 28, 1925, to the late George Lewis and Leona (Majors) Sublett. Wanda dedicated her life to nurturing and empowering those around her, first as a devoted teacher and ultimately as a businesswoman alongside her late husband, Buen.

Wanda earned her master’s degree from Colorado State College of Education at Greeley and devoted her career to teaching Home Economics in several area schools, concluding her distinguished tenure at the Farmington School District. Her passion for educating young minds and instilling valuable life skills left an indelible mark on countless students, many of whom remember her with fondness and gratitude. 

A faithful member of The United Memorial Methodist Church in Farmington, Wanda found strength and community through her involvement in church activities, where she shared her unwavering faith and warmth with others. Her kindness extended beyond the classroom and church; she and Buen owned and operated Brown Carpet Company in Esther for 26 years, where they not only built a successful business but also cultivated lasting friendships and relationships throughout the community. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Buen Brown.

Wanda is survived by two children, Buena House and husband Donald, Vinton Brown and wife Jennifer; three grandsons, Kyle House, Travis and Parker Brown; great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Kylee House; special friends, Mary Jane McDowell for 73 years as well as Steve and Mark Rottler.

Visitation will be held C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Friday, December 27, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM. Reverend Shannon Davis will be officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre.
