Velma "Jitter" Gibson

            Velma Gibson, 81, of Desloge, passed away September 14, 2017 at her residence surrounded by loved ones. She was born March 2, 1936, in Elvins, to the late Perry and Opal Mae (Underwood) Pratte. Velma is a member of the Cantwell Baptist Church in Desloge, Teamsters, and as a young mother, she was a Girl Scout Leader. 

            She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Gibson; and brother, Norman lee Clark. 

            Velma is survived by her three daughters, Brenda Gibson-Wyatt, Catherine Mecey and husband John, Vicki Ponder and husband Mark; six grandchildren, Shawn Light, Chrysten (Kyle) Whaley, Joshua (Katie) Cook, John (Stacy) Mecey Jr, Zachary Ponder, and Brian Mecey; seven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Serena, Josie, Nathan, Justin, Scarlett, and Jillian; one sister, Donna Walters and husband Curtis. 

            The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Richard Secor and the staff of Safe Harbor Hospice for their loving care. 

            Visitation will be held at Cantwell Baptist Church in Desloge, Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 3:00 PM until service time at 5:00 PM. Reverend Kennard Mayfield will be officiating assisted by Rev. Bob Price. Jitter strongly requested in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the North County Primary Back Pack Fund.
