Van G. Detring

Mr. Van G. Detring, passed away at his Farmington residence on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the age of 94 years. Van was born in Farmington, Missouri on Monday, March 11, 1929, to the late Conrad F. and Grace (Graham) Detring. Also preceding in death, was his loving wife, Alma “Jean” (Haney) Detring in 2010; and his 3 brothers, Donald Detring, Robert Detring, and Edgar Detring.

Van was a member of Farmington Christian Church; Masonic Lodge # 132 for over 50 years; Scottish Rite; Shriner’s Club; and former member of the Elks Club. He worked as a welder with Pilot Knob Pellet Company and then went on to work in maintenance for Chrysler Automobile Factory, where he retired. Van served several years on the Farmington City Council. He served as President of the Board of the Condominium Association where he lived. His true passion was working on his farm his entire life.

He is survived by his two sons, Terry (& Cara) Detring, and Randy (& Lisa) Detring; four grandchildren, Jeremy (& Lindsay) Detring, Christine (& Brian) Laramore, Brandi (& Tim) Craig, and Amanda (& Jason) Buchanan; eleven great-grandchildren, Logan, Bryce, & Hutson Buchanan, Cale & Cora Craig, Van & Tyson Detring, Graham & Baron Laramore, and Aubri & Brenna Laramore; several nephews & nieces; and special friends, Tonya Kinnard and Trena Penberthy.

The family sincerely thanks the staff of Serenity HospiceCare for their Comfort Care program and their compassionate care on hospice in his last days.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home-Taylor Chapel in Farmington with a Masonic Service at 6:00 PM. Visitation will resume at 9:00 AM on Friday, June 9 until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the C.Z. Boyer & Son- Taylor Chapel with Rev. Mike Haney officiating. Interment will follow at Libertyville Christian Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Serenity HospiceCare or Libertyville Cemetery Association.
