Shermadeen Farmer, 80, of Desoto, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 in the comfort of her home. Shermadeen (Green) was born Aug. 28, 1933 to Lawrence and Beulah Green. She was the oldest of three girls and graduated from Desloge High School in 1951. Shermadeen met her lifelong love, Randel Farmer, at the skating rink while he was home on leave from serving in the United States Marines. The couple wed on November 6, 1954 and had four children together. Later in life, Shermadeen graduated from Jefferson Junior College and went on to teach at the State Schools for the Handicapped in Napaville and Potosi for several years. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church-Desoto where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and worked in the nursery for many years. Shermadeen was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to travel and have new adventures. She especially enjoyed spending time with family down by the lake or in the pool. Most days her house was filled with laughter from her many grandkids. She had a zeal for life and a generous heart.She is preceded in death by her parents, and one infant brother, Larry Green.Shermadeen is survived by her husband, Randel Farmer; sisters Jane (Buzz) Ruhr and Janet (Will) Wernecker; children Cheryl (Ralph) Duren, Rebecca Farmer, Randy (Sharon Willett) Farmer, Angela (William) Kitchell; 10 grandkids; 14 great-grandkids; and many friends and family. Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The service will be held in the C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jeremy Muniz officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Parkview Cemetery in Farmington. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
