Russel “Russ” Leroy Hopwood, passed away on December 31, 2024, at the age of 65. Russ was born on January 3, 1959, in Washington, Missouri to William Fred and Dorothy (Ray) Hopwood. Friends and family across Missouri knew of Russ’s unwavering kindness and dedication to others. 

Russ enjoyed a fulfilling career as a heavy equipment mechanic, culminating in his retirement with NB West Contracting. His professional life was marked by a strong work ethic, and he was respected by colleagues for his expertise and reliability. Beyond his career, he made significant contributions to his community, having served as the former Mayor of Irondale and as a volunteer firefighter.

Russ was preceded in death by his father, William Hopwood and his brother, Ricky Lowell Hopwood. 

An active member of Parkland Chapel in Farmington, Russ’s faith was a guiding light in his life. He generously shared his time and talents as a Sunday school teacher and member of the youth council in many churches around the area, inspiring and mentoring young minds. His warm spirit and readiness to lend a hand to anyone in need made a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Russ cherished the great outdoors, finding peace in fishing and attending classic car shows, where his admiration for Ford vehicles was evident to all. He treasured spending time with his family, continuing to create cherished memories.

Russ leaves behind his loving spouse of 41 years, Lisa Hopwood; mother, Dorothy Hopwood; his beloved daughters, Katie (Adam) Thomure, Emily (Donnie) Crump; adored grandchildren, Zane (Karoline) Thomure, Kelsi Coleman, Cruz Coleman, Edie Thomure, Ruby Thomure, Hayes Thomure, Colten Crump and Peyton Crump; great-granddaughter, Klementine Thomure; siblings, Eugene (Sandy) Hopwood, Brenda (Lonnie) Courtoise Sharon Hopwood and Karen (Howard) Maness; along with his beloved dog Lydia. Russ's warmth, laughter and unique sense of humor will be profoundly missed by all who knew him 

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home- Taylor Chapel in Farmington from 9:30 AM until service time of 12:00 PM with Pastor Mike Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Delhi Cemetery in Cuba at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Russ’s memory can be made to The Gideons International at gideons.org
