Robert Leon Yount passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Parkland Health Center.He was 81 years old.Bob was the son of the late Everett and Lizzy (Martin) Yount.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Delmon Yount; sister in-law, Myra Yount; and a nephew, Steve Yount.Bob was born in Desloge on December 23, 1939 and grew up in Leadwood where he graduated from Leadwood High School in 1948.He loved all sports and played baseball with the St. Louis Browns in the Kitty League.When he returned home to work for St. Joe Lead Co., he married his high school sweet heart, Mary Lois Van Lear in November 1949.He played one more year in the Kitty League and then returned to Leadwood where they spent 61 years and 11 months happily raising their family and enjoying their friends.Bob was a member of the Leadwood United Methodist Church and remained active in Little League Baseball, coaching for years.He also worked as a coach to train young boys (4-6 graders) to play basketball.Bob retired from St. Joe Lead in 1984, and soon thereafter, managed The Bank of the Leadbelt, until retiring in 1991.He was given the honor of being selected to referee the State Class Championship games played at Kiel Auditorium on two different occasions. Bob served on MAC College Board from 1969 through 1975, and served on the Leadwood Cemetery Board, as the Secretary/Treasurer for 50 years, and was a board member for Bank of the Leadbelt for a number of years.Bob is survived by his wife Mary, two children Robert Van (Van) Yount of Desloge and Patti Lizabeth Sullivan and husband Stan, who live in Steelville.He is also survived by two brothers, John Yount of Presbyterian Manor, Donald Yount and wife Mildred of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Kelly Gentry of Desloge, Nathan Yount and wife Brittney of Arnold, Erin Christianson and her husband Charles, Jennifer Pearse and her husband Randy of Little Rock; four great-grandchildren, Mason Miller, Peyton Pearse, Reagan Pearse, and Erika Christianson, all of Little Rock; sister in-law, Helen Yount of Fenton, Missouri; brother in-law, C.E. Van Lear (Bud) and wife Janet of Buchanan, Michigan and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Friday November 4, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.The service will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel in Desloge, Saturday November 5, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Padre Bob Payne officiating.Interment will follow at Leadwood Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Leadwood United Methodist Church.
