Robert Nicholas Benwell, Sr., 88, of Bonne Terre passed away March 2, 2014 at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center. He was born August 23, 1925 in St. Louis. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII in which he received a Purple Heart. He participated in the campaigns of Southern France, Rome-Arno, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of the D.A.V. Farmington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Benwell and Irene Gough; grandson, James Raglin; half-sister, Elizabeth Parr; three half-brothers, Louis Reinwald, Edward Fitzgerald and Daniel Fitzgerald.Robert is survived by his wife, Lois (Green) Benwell; three children, Judy (Tom) Tatum, Robert (Kathy) Benwell, Jr., Geraldine (Martin) Giger; four step-children, David (Sybil) Williams, Darrel (Ann) Williams, Garry (Lyn) Williams, Jeffrey Williams; twenty-fourgrandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren;ten half-brothers and sisters, Jean Rowe, Jackie Chapman, Ona Vititoe, Barbra(Bill) Bandy, Joseph (Jan) Benwell, Kenneth (Donna) Benwell, Daniel (Jan)Benwell, Louise Harrison, Catherine McGuire, Sandra Charlton. Visitation will be Friday, March 7, 2014 from 10:30 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at the C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre with Pastor Bradford Laubinger officiating.
