Raymond J. Murphy of BonneTerre passed away Thursday, December 26th, 2013 at Mercy Hospital.Ray was the loving son ofthe late Edwin and Lucy (Whelehon) Murphy, and dear long-time husband ofPatricia (Peacock) Murphy. In addition to his wife, he is survived by threesons, Gary Murphy (Christina Bych); Matthew Murphy (Mary Jo); and Chad Murphy(Debra Herbst); two step-daughters Mitzi White; and Shelly White (Chris West);and his grandchildren, Maxwell and Mark Murphy; Luke and Catherine Murphy;Emily and Courtney Tyrrell; and Madison and Brennan West. Ray received hisengineering degree from Rolla School of Mines. He then enlisted in the U.S.Army during WWII and was stationed at Oak Ridge Tennessee working on thedevelopment of the Atomic Bomb. At the end of the war, he returned to BonneTerre where he worked for the St. Joseph Lead Company. His working career took him to St. Louis,Michigan, and California, with careers including design engineer, president ofmarketing and chief engineer. Ray earned his Masters Degree in Business fromWashington University in St Louis. Whenhe returned to Bonne Terre to care for his aging parents, he started his owncompany, SpaceWalker, Inc., an engineered based machine and fabrication shopand metals service center. The 35-year-old company continues to be activelyinvolved in the community.Ray will be missed by family and friends. Visitation at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home in Bonne Terre on Sunday, December 29th from3:00-8:00pm, with the prayer service at 3:00. Funeral at St. Josephs CatholicChurch in Bonne Terre at 11:00am, Monday, December 30th. Intermentwill be at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery immediately following.
