Owen Sloan, Jr., 84, of Farmington passed away April10, 2014 at Presbyterian Manor. He was born October 14, 1929 in Leadwood. Owenproudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the KoreanWar. He retired from Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth, TX. After his retirement hemoved to a small farm outside of Bonne Terre at which time he operated SloansKiddie Rides. He made his first spoon ring in 1965 and sold them for manyyears, making him known as the "Spoon Man".He was preceded in death by his parents, Owen Sloan,Sr. and Ettress (Winfield) Sloan; wife, Billie Jean (King) Sloan; sister,Catherine "Sug" Brewer; brother, James "Bud" Sloan. Owen is survived by his son, Owen Lee Sloan ofArlington, TX; two step-daughters, Glenda Jean (Kenny) Neumann of Houston, TX,Cindy (Steven) King of Farmington; six grandchildren, Shaun, Brandon, Carrie,Matt, Cody, Lauren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Cannell ofFarmington; special nephew, Brad Sloan; special niece, Alex Wright. Severalother special nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 4:00PM until 8:00 PM at the C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge. Servicewill be Monday at 10:00 AM at the C. Z. Boyer & Son Chapel in Desloge with Rev.David Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Whitewater Cemetery in PerryCounty with full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the DisabledAmerican Veterans Chapter 12 of Farmington.
