Rev. Oscar Barton, 77 of Bonne Terre, passed away August 29, 2013 at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born October 11, 1935 in Frankclay and later Rev. Barton proudly served his Country in The United States Army. He was a member of Caledonia Assembly of God, and his grandfather, Rev. John T. Barton, was the author of the song "Iron Mountain Baby." Rev. Barton worked for many years at Meramec Industry in Sullivan which is a plastics industry and he would travel the United States and overseas to set up plastic factories. He loved to fish and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather as well as a friend to everyone.Rev. Barton is preceded in death by parents, James and Rosie Pearl (Pyatt) Barton; first wife, Deanna (Roney) Barton; and several siblings.He is survived by wife, Wilma (Mallow) Barton, children, Stephen Barton, Julia (Mrs. Steve) Maples, Paul Barton, Mark Barton, Jerry (Babbett) Bess, Lisa (Mrs. Russ) Hopwood, Diana (Mrs. Brian) Phillips; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Ruthann (Mrs. Chuck) Benoist; many nieces, nephew, and special friends.Rev. Barton was greatly known for his commitment to our Lord and Savior, in his 55 years of ministry. He was so committed to preaching, his last sermon was completed using his walker. He also loved his devoted congregation at the Caledonia Assembly of God Church. Rev. Barton was a licensed minister with the Assembly of God Association for over 30 years and previously the Church of God Organization for approximately 25 years.Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The service will be held in the C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel, Wednesday, September 4, 2013at 10:30 AM, with Pastor Dwight Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Adams Cemetery in Frankclay.
