Oliver Dean Vanderpool

Dean Vanderpool, 89, of Desloge passed away October 16, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.  He was born on February 21, 1928 in Phoenix, Arizona. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Elton and Florence E. (Dunkin) Vanderpool and a son-in-law, Lloyd Clem.

         Dean spent most of his career working as an engineer for various engineering firms, working on both civilian and government projects, before he retired in 1997.  Dean was also a proud Veteran of the United States Army.  In 1948, Dean married his high school sweetheart, Arletta Smith, they were happily married for 69 years.

         Dean is survived by his loving wife, Arletta Faye Vanderpool; two sons, Rick Vanderpool and wife Jan, Reg Vanderpool and wife Patty; daughter, Sue Clem; eight grandchildren, Julie, Jenny, Evan, Jessica and husband Windsor, Carrie and husband Jason, Jason and wife Eva, Rachel and Sara Jane; eleven great-grandchildren, Jenna, Evan, Amelia, Wyatt, Willow, Violet, Yasmin, Jeramyah, Emilyah, Ashleigh and Ayla are left to mourn his passing.   Deans’s family and friends will miss his singular wit and intelligence and the treasure trove of life experiences he enjoyed sharing.  

         Visitation will be Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 4:00 PM until service time of 7:00 PM at the C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge with Pastor Bradford Laubinger officiating.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
