Miriam Babbitt

Miriam Ruth (Fales) Babbitt, 98, of Terre Du Lac, formerly of St. Louis, passed away October 3, 2016. She was born January 18, 1918 in Manton, Michigan to the late Rev. Ira and Hazel (Betts) Fales. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 62 years, Gene Babbitt; four siblings, Wilfred, Dean and Kerm Fales and Betty Babbitt, who all lived well into their 90’s.

Miriam is survived by two daughters, Laurie Babbitt (Rich Bernard) of Terre Du Lac and Mindy Babbitt Charles (Duane) of Raleigh, NC; four grandchildren, Christin Comer Dalaviras (Jim) of Wayne NE, Carrie Comer Bellair (Dan) of Lockport, IL, Brett Charles (Rachel) of College Station, TX, Kara Charles Albert (Ethan) of Raleigh, NC; nine great-grandchildren, Eric, Jordan and Katie Dalaviras, Dustin, Cole, Sam and Josh Bellair, Kayelee Charles and Gavin Albert; two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Fales and Janet Fales. Numerous nieces, nephews and bridge friends also survive. Thank you to Sally Lowe, Millie Metzger and Jane Mullen for your many phone calls and kind gestures.

Gene was an accountant for Boatmen’s Bank and Miriam worked as a secretary for Emerson Electric Space Division in St. Louis until their retirement in 1977, when they built their home in Terre Du Lac. Both played golf and bridge at the Country Club and were members of First Congregational Church in Bonne Terre. They sang in the choir and she also played the organ and piano. She was also a member of the Women’s Fellowship and he was on the church board. Due to her declining vision, she had to give up playing bridge and spent her final years listening to books on tape from the Wolfner Library for the Vision Impaired, Jefferson City, MO. Donations in her name would certainly be appreciated.

My deepest thanks to Rich and my daughter, Carrie for their continued help, love and support during the past few weeks. Thank you to Debbie, Frank, Michelle, Shirley, Laurie and several others from Preferred Hospice, Farmington for your kindness, support and help during this difficult time. Donations to this wonderful hospice would be appreciated. Also thanks to Justin from Therapy Supply for his help.

Family services will be held at a later date. As per her wishes, her ashes will be spread in her beautiful Terre Du Lac. Arrangements are under the direction of C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre. View obituary and share condolences online at www.www.czboyer.com
