Michael Thomas Sweeney

Michael Thomas Sweeney, 81, of Desloge, passed away peacefully, July 3, 2024, surrounded by the ones who loved him dearly. He was born December 23, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Michael C. and Mary (Moore) Sweeney. Michael served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He later became an iron worker in Chicago and was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local #1. Michael loved boating and car racing, but most of all, he was a devoted grandfather who adored the time he spent with his grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed Florida with family and friends.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Maureen Cain and Eileen Sweeney; and one brother in-law, Bob Martin. 

 Michael is survived by the love of his life for 55 years, Darlene (Perko) Sweeney; two adoring daughters, Jennifer Carey and husband Daniel, Jessica Sparrow and husband Jason; ten grandchildren, Keagan (Ryan), Michael, Jonathan, Andrew, Matthew, Patrick, Joseph, Nicholas, Aiden and Carter; sisters, Kay Martin, Nancy Sweeney and Patricia Sweeney – Fisher.

A memorial mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Park Hills, Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 10:00AM.  A private family inurnment took place at Hillview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Monday, July 15, 2024, with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge. Memorials in honor of Michael’s memory, may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
