Matthew "Matt" Vernon Soden

Matthew “Matt” Vernon Soden, 92 of French Village passed away peacefully Saturday, October 7, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Matt was born on Monday, June 29, 1931 in French Village to the late Rolla and Rose (Carron) Soden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Laverne (Roth) Soden; second wife, Lisa (Politte) Soden; son, Mark Soden; sister, Shirley Aubuchon; and a brother in infancy, Thomas Soden.

Matt was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in French Village. Farm life was his joy, riding horses, baling hay, checking on his cows and working on his farm equipment. He also enjoyed working with the Mennonite community, going to town for breakfast, eating donuts, candy, and all different kinds of food.

Matt is survived by his loving children, Dale Soden, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Soden, Judy (John) Pettus, and Lucas Soden; grandchildren, Johnny (Mandy) Pettus, Julie Carroll, Joanie (Mark) Smith, Roseanna (Josh) Chilton, Krystal (Johnny) Taylor, Rusty Soden; great grandchildren, Dylan, Chase, Landon, Nora, Jedediah, Levi, Colton, Brayden, Bailey, Ella Rose, and Nevaeh; sister, Rose Marie Renfro. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive. Matt will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church in French Village, on Friday, October 13, 2023, at 10:00 AM with Father Vincent Nyman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anne Catholic Church Cemetery.
