Marvin E. House

Marvin House, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, recent great-great-grandfather and friend, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Mercy Jefferson Hospital in Festus at the age of 94. He was born on Friday, August 29, 1930, in Bonne Terre to the late Lewis Edward and Ada Ann (Eaves) House.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Opal House; son, Steve House; grandson, Adam House; stepson, Robert Dale Hill; brothers, Roy, Louis, Henry and Irvin House; sisters, Ethel Cross, Violet Skaggs, Evelyn Jackson, Marilyn Miller and Merle Ann Edgar.

Marvin loved God, family and his country. He proudly served 40 years in the United States Army, Army National Guard and the United States Air Force Active Reserve. He rose to the rank of E-9 Chief Master Sergeant. He served 27 months during the Korean Conflict in the 5th Regimental Combat Team (RCT) and the 32nd Infantry Division. His commitment to service continued as he retired from Missouri Natural Gas Company with 33 ½ years of dedicated service, where he also served as past president of the Missouri Natural Gas Union.

As a lifetime member of the Providence Baptist Church, Marvin was the oldest living and still attending member. He enriched the lives of those around him with his faith and kindness. He was an active member of the Armed Forces Enlisted Association, Air Force Sergeant’s Association, proud lifetime member of Bonne Terre V.F.W. Post #6883 and the American Legion Post 83 in Bonne Terre. For the past 40 years, he lovingly served as the caretaker of Germania Cemetery, a testament to his commitment to his community and the memories he cherished there.

He is survived by his loving wife, Della House; son, Danny (Shari) House; daughters, Darla (Gary) Myers, Becky (Darrell) Jaco; daughter-in-law, Jeanine House; nine grandchildren, Amy, Justin, Michael, Chris, Daniel, Angela, Jon, Melissa and Hannah; step grandchildren, Kelli, Kayla and Josh; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a recent great-great-grandson; brother, Cecil (Carol) House along with all of his coffee shop buddies.

 In his spare time, he built and remodeled several houses, including the remodel of the old family farmhouse where he lived. Marvin spent many of mornings with his friends at the local “Coffee Shop” known as Hardee's sharing stories and solving world problems.

Marvin's life was marked by an unwavering dedication to family, friendship, and community, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 9:00 AM until service time of 11:30 AM with Pastor Bobby Upchurch officiating. Burial to follow at Germania Cemetery. Memorials if desired, may be made to Providence Baptist Church.
