Lennie Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lennie Smith, who departed this life on January 9, 2025, at the age of 71. Lennie was born on February 16, 1953, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by faith, service, and a passionate love for his family.

Leonard was a lifetime member of Delassus Baptist Church, where he served as a faithful deacon and dedicated Sunday school teacher. His warm spirit was a cornerstone of the community; he sang in the choir, sharing his love for music with those around him. Leonard lived out his faith through deeds, often seen volunteering his time to assist others. Whether taking friends to doctor appointments or visiting those in the hospital, his compassion and kindness were felt by many. In his quiet moments, Leonard found joy in watching Westerns and cheering for his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. Yet, nothing brought him more happiness than the time he spent with his cherished grandchildren; he always sought to create special memories with them, treasures that will remain in the hearts of all who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Helen (Branham) Smith; father and mother in-law, Don and Pat Skaggs; sister, Carolyn Hutchinson; brothers in-law, Terry Edgar and Butch Skaggs.

Leonard is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Sue (Skaggs) Smith, and their sons, Jason Smith, Marcus Smith and wife Bayley; three grandchildren, Savannah, Parker and Quinn; special mother to the grandchildren, Candi Smith; sister, Barb Edgar; special niece, Lisa Proffer; Brother and sister in-law, Bill Hutchinson and Kim(Kenny) Duncan; along with countless friends and family whose lives were touched by his unwavering love and generosity.
