Our beloved mother, Kathryn Green passed away February 14, 2025, at Presbyterian Manor surrounded by family at the age of 84. Kathryn was born April 4, 1940 in Redford, MO to the late Emil and Dorothy (Martin) Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Winfred Darrell Green; two brothers, Leo and Leon Allen; a sister, Lois Skaggs; and a grandson, Andrew Thurman.
Kathryn was known for her hugs, her words of affirmation, her wisdom, her consistent and intentional investment of attention to her children and grandchildren. At nine years of age, Kathryn believed in Christ Jesus as her Savior and Lord and was baptized. She was a very involved member of the First Baptist Church of Farmington and served in many capacities throughout her lifetime. She especially loved the many years of teaching 6th grade Sunday School class, leading Ladies Bible Studies, church nursery director, and traveling on mission trips and cooking for all the youth, which earned her the much-used title of “Granny Green”. Her family loved sharing this title with many church youth that were blessed to sit under her teaching and influence, as her joy and encouragement and spiritual guiding light was in too great of abundance that it could not be contained. She was everyone’s “Granny Green”. Kathryn loved the Lord with all her heart and her faith was evident in any conversation or task she undertook. Kathryn extended her nurturing talents to assist others dealing with loved ones suffering from mental illness and became a leader in the NAMI of Missouri. Many of Kathryn’s attributes may be those never seen but deeply impacted those lives touched and encouraged by her compassionate and loving touch.
Kathryn is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Tim) Holt and Cindi (Lee Thurman; four grandchildren, Emily (Marlan) Penton, Ben (Carole) McCulley, Adam Thurman, and Abigail Thurman; two great-grandchildren, Abram Tuten and Liam McCulley. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear close friends also survive. Kathryn was also loved by many nursing staff at Presbyterian Manor, which had many shared stories and many made a point to visit her bedside. Kathryn was well cared for in her last days by Heart and Soul Hospice and attended to her family in this eternal transition.
Arrangements to celebrate Kathryn’s heavenly homecoming will be held at the First Baptist Church of Farmington on Monday, February 17, 2025 with visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at Noon. A private, family only graveside service will follow. Memorial donations may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill or First Baptist Church of Farmington.
