Karen M. Basden

Karen Margaret Basden 52, of Bonne Terre passed away January 24, 2012. She was born June 2, 1959 in St. Louis County. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bonne Terre. She was a lifelong educator in the local schools. Karen began her teaching career at the North County School District for 1 year. She then taught at Valley R-6 School District for 24 years. In recent years, she devoted 6 years to the St. Joseph School in Bonne Terre, where she served as Principal and Teacher and also on the School Board and Parish Council. Karen was an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed golfing.She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Neier and two brothers, Danny Neier and Joseph Neier.Karen is survived by her husband, Frank Basden; three sons, Robert, Ryan and Rory Basden; mother, Loretta (Hoette) Neier; siblings, Jeff Neier and wife Vikkie, Steve Neier and wife Jane, Nancy (Mrs. Barry) Johnston and Rob Neier and wife Cathy. Several nieces, nephews and many friends also survive.Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2012 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bonne Terre with a Prayer Service concluding the visitation. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 11:00 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. John Schneider officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a Catholic Education fund for Rob, Ryan and Rory in care of Frank Basden.
