Mr. Joseph L. Smith, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 7, 2007, at his Farmington Presbyterian Manor residence, Farmington, at the age of 86 years, 3 months & 1 day. Joseph was born January 6, 1921, in Mine La Motte, MO., to George Vinson Smith & Mary Elizabeth 'Brock' Smith. Also preceded-in-death by his wife, Evelyn Josephine 'Wunning' Smith (April 4, 1998); 1 Sister: Ruby 'Smith' LaPlante & 2 Brothers: Lee Smith & Rudolph Smith.
Joseph was : * a member of Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington; * he was a US Army-Air Corps Veteran of WWII; * he was a member of NARFE (Nat'l Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees); * he graduated with a B.A. from George Washington Univ. in 1948 & had a distinguished career in charge of contracts with the US Atomic Energy Commission in Washington, D.C., * he returned to Farmington & worked briefly as a real estate agent, before becoming a gentleman farmer with a small Angus herd, on Valley Forge Road, in Farmington.
Survivors Include: 2 Sons: Lawrence W. 'Larry' Smith & Joseph P. 'Philip' Smith, both of Farmington; 1 Brother: James O. (& Ruth) Smith, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Nephew: Jack (& Ella) LaPlante, of St. Louis & several other Nieces & Nephews in Denver Colorado; St. Louis, Missouri; Cincinnati & Sunbury, Ohio; Oklahoma & the Farmington area.
Visitation: 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2007, at TAYLOR Funeral Service, Inc., in Farmington, Missouri
Memorial Service to follow at: 2:00p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the TAYLOR Funeral CHAPEL, with Dr. Rick Broadway officiating.
Interment in: Parkview Cemetery, Farmington, Missouri.
