John Merritt

            John Merritt, 71, of Desloge, passed away June 7, 2020 at BJC Evelyn’s Hospice House in Creve Coeur. He was born April 29, 1949, in Bonne Terre, to the late Paul and Alma (Rigdon) Merritt. John was a graduate of Central High School. He enjoyed fishing with friends and family, restoring classic cars with his good buddy Bobby Duncan and listening to country music. John shared his love for music with his sisters and there was not a microphone or karaoke machine that stood a chance, when they were together.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Michael (Linda) Merritt, Robert Merritt and Paul Merritt, Jr.; sisters, Mary Propst and Pat (George) Van; nephew, Paul Merritt III.

            John is survived by his children, Teresa (Doug Rayburn) Tawfall, Scott Merritt, Tashia Castro and husband Ben; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Dorothy Wilson and husband Robert; nieces and nephews, Christy (Dave Diamond) Merritt, Lisa (Jay) O’Bryan, Michelle (Scott) Sanders, Celeste (Bill) Bub, Diane (Robert) Handley; special friend, Dedra Duncan; several other friends and family members also survive. John was a cherished great uncle, cousin and friend to many.

            The family is planning a memorial visitation, Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 11:00 AM until the Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM in the C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel in Desloge. Memorials may be directed to BJC Hospice House: bjchospice.org/Evelyns-House
