Joe Stone

            Joseph Lee Stone, 74, of Bonne Terre, passed away May 2, 2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born December 25, 1941, in St. Louis, to the late William Paul and Virginia (Reagan) Stone. He was a member and Deacon of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Park Hills. Joe was employed by Arizona Game and Fish Department for 13 years, after graduating from Mizzou, where he was a letterman in wrestling. In 1976, Joe and his wife Gale, purchased the Country Side Nursery, which later became Country Way Nursery. They operated the nursery for 30 years. Joe is a member of the Bonne Terre Samaritan Lodge. He is a past member of the North County School Board, Missouri Agriculture Extension Board, and Bonne Terre Rotary Club.   Many people will remember his Saturday morning radio talk show, called “News from The Compost Pile.”

            He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Pauline Spain.

             Joe is survived by his wife of 54 Years, Gale (Eudy) Stone; two sons, Paul Stone and wife Brenda of Park Hills, Joe Stone and wife Janet of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren, Allison (Michael) Barbino, Ashley Stone, Brandon (Jessica) Stone, Kelly Stone, Camryn Stone and Jordan Stone; four great-grandchildren, Brynne, Bentley, Addison, and Analina; two sisters, Lois Fix of Florida, and Eva (Jim) Meloche of Texas; mother in-law, Elizabeth Eudy; sisters in-law, Eudora (Henry) Stephens, Rose Yancey, and Connie Eudy; several nieces and nephews also survive.

             Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The service will be held in the chapel, Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Josh Kennon officiating. Interment will follow at Peach Tree Cemetery in Piedmont. Memorials may be directed to the First Freewill Baptist Church of Park Hills.
