James "Jimm" Robert Edwards

Jimm Edwards, 90, of Desloge, passed away September 17, 2024, at NHC Health Care in Desloge. He was born May 11, 1934, in Desloge, to the late Joseph and Eunice (Jenkerson) Edwards. In addition to his parents, Jimm was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Charles Edwards and one sister, Wanda Stumbo.

 Jimm proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant after 20 years. Following his military service, he pursued his passion for knowledge, obtaining a master’s degree and eventually a Doctorate in Psychology from Troy State University in Alabama. 

Transitioning to a second career in the Federal Civil Service as a Program Manager, Jimm dedicated an additional 15 years of his life to public service and education. He shared his wealth of knowledge by teaching a few classes at his alma mater, Troy State University. Jimm was a devoted member of the Desloge United Methodist Church. He embodied kindness, dedication, and a thirst for learning. His former affiliations with the Leadington V.F.W. and the Masons further showcased his commitment to service and camaraderie.

Jimm is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Myra “Maydean” (Prier) Edwards; adoring dad to Doug Edwards and wife Karen Dickerson, Sherri Yaklin and husband Larry; fun loving grandpa to Kristofer Edwards, Devin Yaklin and Kyle Yaklin; fun loving great grandpa to Radley, Tesla and Ellie along with several nieces, nephews and other family members. 

Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Monday, September 23, 2024, from 10:00 AM until service time of 1:00 PM with Pastor Joe Hayes officiating. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Leadington, Missouri with full military honors.
