Fanny Hazel Pickard, age 87, of French Village passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Ste. Genevieve Care Center. She was born on Saturday, February 6, 1937, in Portageville to the late Virgil and Viola (Wheeler) Allen.
Hazel dedicated much of her time to caring for her home and family, creating a warm and loving environment for all who entered her door. She was an active church member in the Jefferson Baptist Association and at the end of her life she was a member of Sonrise Baptist Church in Bonne Terre, where she found solace and community in her faith. Hazel also had a green thumb, tending to a half-acre garden with love and skill, enjoying the fruits of her labor through the art of canning. Her culinary talents were renowned among friends and family, as she delighted in preparing delicious meals for those she cherished. In addition to her domestic pursuits, Hazel found joy in playing the piano, sharing her musical gifts with others and finding solace in the beautiful melodies she created.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Ray Pickard; daughter, Robin Ditch; sons-in-law, Larry Penrose and David Ditch; brothers, Vernie, Herbert, Leroy and Tommy Allen; sisters, Lois Paul, Betty Batson, Isabelle Sandusky and Lillie Williams.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, Pam Penrose; sons, Alan Pickard and Keith Pickard and wife Angie; grandchildren, Crystal, Amanda (Yury), Christopher, Diana (Tim), Derek (Sarah), Kate, Cheston (Megan), Robert (Dana) and Laura (Nick); 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Lester; sister-in-law, Sue Allen along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home – Taylor Chapel in Farmington from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM. Pastor Daniel Weyand to officiate. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve. Memorials, if desired in Hazel’s memory can be made to Serenity Hospice.
