Harold Eugene "Pig" Penberthy departed this life at 2:15 a.m. on March 31, 2014, at St. Johns Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Pig is survived by his wife of 61 yrs, Billie Jean (House) Penberthy.He leaves behind three sons: Jerry Penberthy; Van Penberthy, and Greg (Lee Ann) Penberthy, all of Leadwood, MO. One daughter: Fonda (John) Moser of Fenton, MO. He was proud to be called "Pop" by grandchildren who were the light of his world. They are: Larry Penberthy, Aaron Penberthy, Andrew, Adam and Lauren Moser, and great-granddaughter Emmelia. He is also survived by two siblings: Reuben Penberthy of Arnold, MO and Linda (Bernard) Pasha of Potosi, MO.He was preceded in death by: his father, Vester Penberthy; his mother, Beatrice (Marler) Penberthy. Four siblings: Irma (Penberthy) Cross; Dean Penberthy; Mick Penberthy; and Denny Penberthy.Pig was a lifelong resident of Leadwood, MO, and was well known and loved in the community. He married his soul mate, Billie Jean House on May 3, 1952, and would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year. He proudly served our Country in the Korean War as an Army Infantry Corporal from 1950-53, and was discharged from the Army in 1956. He was a devout Catholic and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Park Hills, MO. Pig retired from the Pea Ridge Mines working underground. He was also a member of the VFW in Leadington, MO.When you listen to his children and his grandchildren speak of him they call him their "Hero". Pig made a lasting impression on anyone he met. Although he is no longer with us, the memories he leaves will never be forgotten. He will be missed by many but forgotten by none.Visitation will be at C.Z. Boyer Funeral Home in Leadwood, MO, at 5:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Funeral Services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Park Hills, MO, at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 3, 2014. Funeral service will be officiated by Father Ebert and Father Jim French, with graveside service following at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the St. Francois County Relay for Life.
