With heavy hearts but warm memories, we announce the passing of Harlan James Gillam, fondly known as Jim, who left us on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on Friday, November 1, 1946, to the late Earl Golden and Juanita Bernice (Jinkerson) Gillam. Jim was a lifelong treasure to his beloved wife, Judy Gillam, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years, 48 of them as a devoted married couple.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Tyler. Jim was a vibrant member of Marvin Chapel Church, where his spirit and kindness touched many lives. He embraced life with enthusiasm and passion, finding joy in everything he did, from horseback riding and hunting to breaking horses and dedicating himself to woodworking. One of his many talents included crafting exquisite knives, a testament to his natural ability and creativity. Whether it was a quiet afternoon in the workshop or a fun-filled day outdoors, Jim found the extraordinary in the everyday, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His skill and zest for life inspired those around him, and he will be deeply missed.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Judith “Judy” Fay (Strickland) Gillam; special niece, Kathy (Brad) Paul; Godfather to Cody Allen and Heather Johnson, along with many friends and family.
Though Jim has left our world, his legacy of kindness, skill, and passion for life will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM until memorial service time of 1:00 PM with Pastor Scott Marler officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to St. Jude’s or Fresenius Kidney Care Dialysis Center.
