The family of Gretta McGee is saddened to announce her passing at the age of 90 on July 7, 2024. Gretta, born in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, to Willie and Mary (Jenkins) Cox, lived a life devoted to her family and faith. A beloved member of the First Baptist Church in Desloge, she found joy in attending services and connecting with her community through singing in the choir as well as nursing homes.
Gretta's talents were boundless; she poured her heart into creating over 100 quilts with intricate embroidery, each stitch a testament to her creativity and care. When not stitching, she could be found engrossed in the pages of a good book. She appreciated the simple pleasures of life, such as visiting with family and friends on her front porch swing, were her favorite days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; adoring husband, George McGee; siblings, James Cox and Dorothy Evitts.
Gretta is survived by her children, Cheryl Bailey and husband David, Jimmie McGee and wife Teresa, Kathi Martinez and husband Ray, Anita Smith and husband Bronce; ten grandchildren, Shawn (Heather) Bailey, Brent (Kate) Bailey, Jennifer (Dave) Nonnenkamp, Michael (Shannon) McGee, Marissa Martinez, Nicholas Martinez, Isabella Martinez, Lacie Smith, Cody (Natalie) McGee and Kelsie Smith; twelve great-grandchildren, Ruby, Emme, Cash, Reid, Andrew, Jacob, Lucas, Ethan, Connor, Charleigh, Shayne and Hadley; special sister, Bettie Sprinkle; sister in-law, Millie Cox; many nieces, nephews, other family members, as well as her church family, also survives. Their shared memories with Gretta will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Monday, July 15, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM. Dr. Bradford Laubinger will be officiating. A private family gathering will be held at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church Ministry Center in Desloge, or Serenity Hospice.
The family is so appreciative of Serenity Hospice and the incredible care and love provided to Gretta. They will be forever grateful!
