Dr. Eugene Dale "Gene" Denman, of Missouri City, Texas & formerly of Farmington, passed away August 30, 2013, at his Missouri City, TX, residence at the age of 85 years. Gene was born March 15, 1928, in Farmington, and was the son of Charles M. Denman and Flora B. (Ward) Denman. Preceding him in death were his wife, Lorene Norma Jean (Hodge) Denman in 1984, sisters Mary Kathryn Hawn and Ruby Bruce, and brothers Leonard Denman, Lewis Denman, and Ward Denman, who was killed in action at Omaha Beach in World War II. He is survived by daughter Laura K. (& Robert) Coon of Missouri City, TX, son Stephen D. (& Jennifer) Denman of Albuquerque, NM, sisters Anna Mae (& Emmett) Wampler and Berneice Panchot of Farmington, grandchildren David J. and Kathryn D. Denman of Albuquerque, NM, and grandson Christopher D. Coon of Missouri City, TX.
After graduation from Farmington High School, he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Signal Corps. He later attended Washington University, St. Louis, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Virginia, where he received his PhD in Electrical Engineering. Gene was a professor of Electrical Engineering at Vanderbilt University and the University of Houston. He was also a consultant with Lockheed Missles & Space Corp. working at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX, where he worked on the Space Shuttle and other NASA research programs. In retirement, Gene continued to serve his profession in various capacities, including writing for the NCEES Professional Engineering exam and even resuming work in applied mathematics in the last several years of his life.
Outside his profession, he spent considerable time and effort researching and writing on the genealogy of the Denman and Ward families. He traveled to numerous locations in the US and as far as England and Scotland in pursuit of genealogical information. After retirement, Gene returned to the Farmington area where he served the local community through the Kiwanis Club and Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington.
Most importantly, Gene was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and friend. His love of history and family led him to share countless invaluable stories with his children and grandchildren. He had a generous heart and was always ready to help his family and others when in need. Gene will be very missed by his family and friends.
