Gary Wayne Kennedy

Gary Wayne Kennedy passed away on Saturday, December 28th, 2024 at his home in Bonne Terre, Missouri. Gary was born on Tuesday, July 13, 1954 to the late R.L and Irene (Sharp) Kennedy in Malden, Missouri. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jim Kennedy and sister-in-law Dena.

Gary graduated from Twin Rivers High School in 1972. After high school, he farmed for his own family and other local families in the area of Fisk, Missouri. He married Darcy (Holden) on November 29, 1974 in Fisk, Missouri. Gary and Darcy had a son Quinton Wayne on December 7, 1977. The following year in 1978, Gary hired out for the Missouri/Union Pacific Railroad as a Brakeman/Conductor. Gary and Darcy had their second son Gary Adam on March 21, 1982. 

Gary, Darcy and the boys moved to a small railroad town in Council Grove, Kansas in 1984 and spent 18 yrs there. In 2002, Gary and Darcy moved to Abilene, Kansas and lived on a peaceful 10-acre property where they were blessed with 3 grandchildren-Holden, Colin and Ashlynn. After 36 years of service with the Union Pacific Railroad, Gary retired in 2014. With their sons and grandchildren living in Missouri, Gary and Darcy moved to a beautiful lakefront home in Terre Du Lac in 2019. The couple spent their retirement fishing, swimming, enjoying family and friends, also celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his loving wife Darcy (Holden) Kennedy, sons, Quinton (Lacey) Kennedy and Adam (Elizabeth) Kennedy; grandchildren, Holden Kennedy, Colin Kennedy, Ashlynn Kennedy, brothers; Steve (Lora) Kennedy and Joe (Darla) Kennedy, along with many nieces, nephews, Kathy, Stacey, Joe, Chase, Mallory, Justin and Nickolas. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by many family members and friends he’d made over the years. He had a big heart and was loved by many. 

A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
