Gary Dixon, 87, of Bonne Terre, passed away May 24, 2024, at Baisch Nursing Home in DeSoto. He was born November 15, 1936, in Wortham, to the late Roy Edward and Lucy May (Radford) Dixon.
Gary was a member of Eastside Church of God in Leadwood. His passion for sports, particularly baseball, especially for his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals, brought immense joy and excitement to his days. In his leisure time, he found pleasure in reading western books, bowling, cooking, and relishing good food, always surrounded by the laughter and love of his family.
An accomplished high school athlete who broke numerous sports records, Gary's life was marked by generosity and kindness towards others. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, embodying the true spirit of compassion and goodwill.
Gary cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating priceless memories that will forever be treasured by his family and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, James Dixon and two brothers, Donald and Norman Dixon.
Gary is survived by his two sons, Steve Dixon and wife Jane, Kevin Dixon; five grandchildren, Shane Dixon (Maggie), Tara (Nathan) Swafford, Lori, (Jeff) White, Mari (Kyle) Porter and Alyssa (Eric) Yoder; seven, great-grandchildren, Aaden Swafford, Blake Swafford, Amelia Dixon, Gregory Dixon, Luciana Dixon, Charlotte Dixon and William Porter; along with other family members and friends.
His legacy of hard work, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we grieve his passing, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived and the profound impact he made on those around him. Gary will be dearly missed but forever cherished and remembered.
Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the service time at noon. Pastor Ryan Retzer will be officiating. An inurnment at Mitchell Cemetery will take place at a later date.
