Eugene "Gene" L. Gillam, 77 of Bonne Terre, passed away August 29, 2012, at St. Joe Manor, surrounded by his family. He was born November 19, 1934 in Frankclay, to the late Ellis and Delphia (Watts) Gillam.Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer, during the Korean War, on the USS Orleck and USS Bradford.He later worked at Leadbelt Material and Maxson Construction and was self employed as a heavy equipment operator as well as owning his own parking lot maintenance and striping business.Gene was also a member of the Elks, VFW #2426, American Legion, DAV, and Local 518 Operating Engineers.He was always more than happy to help anyone with anything he could.Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 52 years, Barbara Carol Gillam; sons, Kenneth Wayne Gillam and Ronald Allen Gillam; sisters, Jewell Black, Golda Sumpter, and Maxine McCarron; brother, Harold Gillam.He is survived by children, Michael Gillam and wife Angie of Bonne Terre; one daughter, Carolyn Gillam of Park Hills; daughter in-laws, Linda Gillam of Park Hills and Kathy Gillam of Farmington; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and lifelong friends and other relatives.Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home of Desloge, Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a VFW service at 6:30 PM.The service will be held in the C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel, Friday, August 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mike Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Herod Cemetery with Full Military Honors.Memorials may go to the Alzheimers Association.
