Elsie Loverne Shelley, was born on the banks of Black River, January 31, 1932 in a tent, with her Mom Zella Mae, and dad George Sedgwick. She later married Nixon Counts (N.C.) Shelley for 52 years. Preceding her in death was also one sister, Loretta Campbell, from Hopkinsville, KY.
The Lord called her home at the age of 93 years and 2 months.
She is survived by daughters, Nickolyn (Mrs. Alvin Russell), Betha (Mrs. Tim Mattingly) and Donna (Mrs. Paul Earhart); seven grandchildren, Karen (Mrs. Shawn Dement), Mark Russell and wife Carrie, Andy Earhart and wife Kristy, Shelley (Mrs. Christopher Owens), Steven Earhart and wife Jessica, Christina (Mrs. Nate Hampel), John “J.W.” Mattingly and wife Sarah; great-grandchildren, Anderson and Lainie Pipes, Braden Dement wife Kaelyn and Alyssa Dement, Trent Earhart wife Alexus, Dustin, Logan Earhart, Kara, Katie and Jaynie Earhart, Isabelle, Wesley, Amelia, Asher, Benjamin, Charlotte, Steven, Susie Owens, Alex Earhart, Lynnlee, William Mattingly and Madison Keller; one great-great-grandchild, Montana Ruth; special friend and neighbor for 64 years, Elda Grace McCorey of Leadington, MO.
Elsie attended and became a member of Grace Fellowship PCA and Pastor Allan Harmening will be officiating. She worked at Paddle and Saddle Women’s Factory in the 1960’s and 70’s and later worked at Dix’s Greenhouse transplanting seeds to grow pots. Her favorite hobbies included embroidery, word search books, gardening and canning.

Visitation will be held at the C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home – Taylor Chapel in Farmington on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at Noon. Interment will follow at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Farmington. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Soul Hospice.
