Mrs. Elaine Florence Grindell, formerly of Platteville, WI., passed away Jan. 31, 2005, at Farmington Presbyterian Manor, at the age of 83 years, 8 months & 30 days. She was born May 1, 1921, in LaCrosse, WI., to the late Sever & Mathilde 'Halmrest' Johnson. She grew up in Coon Valley, WI. Also preceding in death were: her husband, Edgar Kyle Grindell (Sept. 27, 1993) they were married on Feb. 10, 1944; 1 Brother, Lloyd Johnson & 2 Sisters: Esther (Harry) Steinhorst & Marie (Joe) VanMatre.
Elaine: * was a member of Platteville, WI., United Methodist Church; * she graduated from Platteville HS in 1939; * attended Platteville State Teachers College for 2 yrs & received a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism Education at the Univ. of WI-Madison; * she taught at Waukesha, WI, High School while Edgar was overseas in WWII; * after WWII, they lived 4 yrs in Robbinsdale, MN, & moved to Platteville in 1950. * she was a correspondent for several yrs for several out-of-town daily newspapers; * in 1959, she became Secretary at the O.E. Gray Elementary School & retired from there in 1974; * she served on several boards; committees & taught church school at Platteville United Methodist Church; * she was a member & Past-President of Platteville United Methodist Women; * she was a Past-President of Platteville Church Women United; * she was a member & Past-President of Chapter BN of the P.E.O. Sisterhood; * she was a Charter Member of the Platteville Municipal Hospital Auxiliary; * for many years she delivered meals to home-bound for the Grant County Nutritional Program.
Survivors Include: 2 Daughters - Linda 'Mrs. Tom' Ray, of Farmington, MO., & Pat 'Mrs. Jim' Brien, of Wausaukee, WI; 1 Brother-In-Law: Richard Grindell, of Platteville, WI; 3 Granddaughters: Sarah Ray; Lisa & Stephanie Brien. Also, several Nieces & Nephews.
There will be no local visitation. Memorial services will be: Sat - 11 am - Feb. 12, 2005, at Platteville United Methodist Church, Platteville, WI, with Rev. John Christianson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church - starting at 9:30 am.
