Eddie Lowell Smith, 86, of Farmington, passed away June 2, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. He was born August 19, 1931 in Farmington to the late Leonard William and Myrtle Ellen (Cox) Smith. He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Dale Smith; grandson, Jeremiah David Smith; 3 sisters, Norma Doris Wichman, Wanda Laverne Pipkin, Mary Ellen Abernathy; and 1 brother, Willard Smith.
Lowell was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Delassus where he also served as a deacon. He was the town’s longtime barber as the owner and operator of the Farmington Barber Shop from 1956 to 1993. Lowell served his country in the United States Air Force and was member of the Gideons.
Lowell is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, June (Vaughan) Smith; daughter, Janet (Howard) Gillam; grandchildren, Heather (Alonso) Lara, Matt (Sarah) Gillam, Caleb Smith; step-grandchildren, Julie Jones, Christina Anderson, Bill Gillam, Howard (Debbie) Gillam, and Jim Gillam; and numerous great-grandchildren. Lowell is also survived by many close family members and friends including colleagues Wayne Province, Francis Roberts and Jim West.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Boyer Funeral Home – Taylor Chapel in Farmington, visitation will resume Tuesday 9 am until time of the service at 11 am at the First Baptist Church of Delassus with Rev. Cheston Pickard officiating, assisted by Rev. Francis Roberts and Rev. Russell David Pipkin. Interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Delassus.
