 E. George Tapp, 89, of Farmington, MO, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024, from old age. George was born on December 11, 1934, to Dr. & Mrs. Ernest Tapp (US Army), married Velma Noel (Fraser) Tapp, in Bonne Terre, MO on July 10, 1960. 

E. George Tapp, P.E. was an alumnus of the Missouri School of Mining & Metallurgy (Missouri University of Science and Technology), Class of 1957. He was an active member in the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Society of Automotive Engineers, and served in the U.S. Army ROTC from 1953- 1957. He completed summer internships with the U.S. Geological Survey and St. Joe Lead Company (The Doe Run Company), subsequently joining St. Joe immediately upon graduation. It is through this work with St. Joe that he along with his friends and colleagues would soon thereafter develop and file two patents. In 1968 he was recognized by the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers and his Alma Mater as an “Outstanding Young Engineer”. After retiring (The Doe Run Co.) in 2004, he continued to serve as a Consulting Engineer. In 2019 due to Noel’s health needs, he chose to step back from regular office hours. However, as recently as this summer (2024) George continued to consult, from his Nursing Home, when his colleagues requested. 

George was also actively involved with the Missouri Dam & Reservoir Commission and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources as an Advisor and Friend. Additional civic service included Iron County 9-1-1 Commission (Board Member), Advisor and Friend to the Taum Sauk Fund, Scouts (BSA) local Troop 479 and Ozark Trailblazers District (fundraiser and Board Member), the Rotary Club of Bonne Terre, and the Lions Club of Viburnum. He was a dedicated member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Viburnum (1982 - his passing), also having previously been a member of the Congregational Church of Bonne Terre (1956 - 1982). His hobbies included attending car and tractor shows, civic service, farming, investing, and following the news.

 

Survived by his children, Bill (Kathy) Tapp of suburban St. Louis, MO, their children David and Grahm Tapp; Scott Tapp of Southern Missouri and his children Allen (Michelle), Amelia, and Joseph Hunter along with Alexis DellaMarie Tapp. George also leaves behind his younger sister, Dr. Barbara (Hal) Freese of South Carolina, and sisters-in-law, Sharon Fraser, RN of Poplar Bluff, Virginia Fraser of Nebraska and Natalie Fraser formerly of Suburban St. Louis. Additional loved ones include many nieces, nephews, and cousins spread across the globe. 

 

Preceded in death by his wife, Velma Noel (Fraser) Tapp, R.N., his parents Dr. Ernest and Marjorie Tapp (US Army), his uncle George Lutz, Esq. of Ohio, cousins Captain Richard L Basinger (USMC KIA Vietnam 1967), Ensign John Richard Brinkley (US Navy MIA/KIA Korea 1950), Ann Tapp Coleman (US Air Force Korean Veteran), Anita Tapp, beloved brothers-in-law Mike Fraser, Jack Fraser, Esq., Rev. TJ Fraser (United Methodist Church, Nebraska Conference), Dr. Andy Fraser (Doctors Regional Medical Center of Poplar Bluff), Jesse Middleton and Nancy (Fraser) Middleton, RN, along with many others including grandparents, aunts, uncles, and countless cherished friends.

 

Visitation will be held at C.Z Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre, MO Friday, September 27, 2024, from 5: 00 PM – 7:00 PM (Family Only 4: 30 PM – 5:00 PM) Visitation will resume on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM.at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Viburnum, MO, funeral service will follow at 2:00P.M. Reverend Barbara Hite to be officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his honor may be made to Love Thy Neighbor (of Viburnum) and left at the funeral home or church

 

Arrangements are under the direction of CZ Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre.
