Donald Portell

Donald Portell, 87, of Park Hills, passed away December 3, 2020, at St. Joe Manor in Bonne Terre. He was born July 9, 1933, in Potosi, to the late Charles Homer and Marie (Husk) Portell. Donald was a Christian raised Catholic and had accepted Jesus as his Savior, and therefore, we have comfort knowing that he is in Heaven with his precious mother and father, whom he was dearly devoted too. He worked as a salesman for 40 years for Ralston Purina.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Charlie Portell and Betty Mercille.

Donald was fortunate to be married for 65 years, to his soulmate, best friend and loving wife, Phyllis (Sutton) Portell. She was the mother of his children, which he loved dearly, Don Portell and wife Jamie, David “Mike” Portell, Dan Portell, and Angie Garcia and husband Rocky. He was also survived by nine grandchildren, Courtney, Ryan, Kyle, Mason, Spike, Jennifer, Christine, Andrew, Sara; and three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Donald was thankful to have such a devoted and loving long time care-giver, Linda Reeves, whom he loved and remained by his bedside along with his family. He loved working his cattle farm with his beloved dog, Duke. His favorite actor was John Wayne and spent many hours watching his movies. Donald liked going to cattle sales and talking with people. Especially liked talking and learning from generations older than him. Veteran of the Army and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Farmington Elks Lodge, loved to cook and loved BBQing and boating. Donald instilled a great work ethic into each of his four children.

Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Monday, December 7, 2020 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Park Hills. Memorials may be directed to the Veterinary Clinic of The Mineral Area in Farmington.
