Donald Gene Counts, 75, of Leadwood passed away April 20, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. He was born June 17, 1936. He was a member and faithfully served as an elder of the Gumbo First Church of God. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for eight years. He retired from Chrysler and was a member of the UAW Local #136. Don loved watching his grandkids play baseball, wood working and enjoyed going to Branson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel "Peck" and Fannie (Whitaker) Counts; first wife, Velma (Cox) Counts to whom he was married for 34 years; daughter in infancy, Connie Counts; two brothers, Alvin Counts and James Counts; mother-in-law, Norma Carter; mother and father-in-law, Dyer and Amanda Cox. Don is survived by his wife of 18 years, Carol "Sue" (Carter) Counts; daughter, Teresa (Mrs. Larry) Nettles; two grandsons, Justin and Kyle Nettles; step-children, Bryan Kopp and wife Brenda, Jeff Kopp, Cindy Kopp; step-grandchildren, Felicia, Cameron, Katy, Courtney, Abby, Sierra; brother, Rev. Cleo Counts and wife Barbara; sister, Irma (Mrs. Harold) Barton; many special nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be Monday, April 23, 2012 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge. Service will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the C. Z. Boyer & Son Chapel with Rev. Edgar Green and Rev. Dwight Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Herod Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
