David Oliver Nixon

Mr. David Oliver Nixon passed away late Monday afternoon, April 6, 2009, at his Farmington Presbyterian Manor residence, his home since September 2007. David was born on July 3, 1916, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was the son of Edward L. Nixon and Marjorie (nee Dickson) Nixon.

David's family moved to Chicago, Illinois, when he was five. He was active in The Boy Scouts, becoming an Eagle Scout, and continued his involvement in scouting until adulthood.

David graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, in 1940, and was a 2nd Lt. in the ROTC. He served in World War II in the Army 4th Infantry, stationed in Alaska, England, Scotland, Belgium & France. While stationed in Nome, Alaska, he met Jane Kaase, a Nurse in the hospital at Nome. They were married on May 15, 1943, in Nome, Alaska. Upon his discharge as a Captain from the Army in 1945, David and Jane moved to Chicago where he worked at Sears Roebuck as Advertising Manager of Sears Catalogs.

Mr. and Mrs. Nixon retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas, in 1975. Dave was a Charter Member of the Bella Vista Men's Chorus and also sang with a Barbershop Group and Quartet and the church choir. Dave was a former announcer & reporter on Bella Vista T.V., and also worked as a starter at the Bella Vista Golf Course. David was very active in community/charitable projects, several choral groups, the Bella Vista Community Church, as well as his favorite pastimes of golfing, fishing and bowling.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jane L. (nee Kaase) Nixon, of Farmington; 1 Daughter, Barbara 'Mrs. Dr. Terry' Guiley, of Farmington; 1 Son, Donald (& Jean) Nixon, of Richardson, Texas. 1 Sister, Nancy 'Mrs. Don' Plumb, of Florida. 7 Grandchildren: Brett (& Shannon) Guiley; Erika 'Mrs. Zack' Sommermeyer; Grant Guiley; Laurel Guiley; Brian (& Courtney) Nixon; Shaun Nixon and Sara Jane Nixon. Also surviving are 6 Great-Grandchildren.

Memorial Service : Friday, 4:00 p.m., April 17, 2009

at : TAYLOR Funeral Service CHAPEL, with Rev. Jim Frago officiating.

Interment follows at : Hillview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Farmington
