Dr. Charles T Gamble, 79, of Farmington, MO died Monday, Dec 21, 2020. He was born in White County, TN in April 1941 to the late Lowery and Ila Swindell Gamble. Dr. Gamble was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Charles married the love of his life, Carol Smith, in December 1962.
Charles and Carol have two children, daughter Leslie Myers (Tim) of St Louis and son Michael Gamble (Patrick) of Tampa, FL. Charles is also the proud “Pop” of two grandsons Stephen Myers (Janet) of Kansas City and Daniel Myers (Kyle) of Portland, OR.
In addition to his immediate family, Charles is survived by his sister,
Shirley Portwood of Knoxville, TN, sister-in-law Diane Fields (Charlie) of Lewisville, IN, as well as numerous, much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dr. Gamble, aka Charlie, was the livestock specialist for the University of Missouri Extension before retiring in 2000 after 30 years of service. He also served on the boards of the St Francois County Fair, Soil and Water Conservation District and the local Farm Bureau. In addition, Charlie supported local youth through 4-H service and livestock programs. If that wasn’t enough, Charlie also was an adjunct professor at both Mineral Area and Jefferson County Community Colleges.
During his retirement, he became known as the “Reel Man”. Fishermen and women from all over would drop by the house to have him repair their rods and reels. This “hobby” helped fund his annual fishing trip to Canada with best friend Mel Zielinski as well as aided him in amassing his collection of Ambassadeur fishing reels.
A memorial visitation will be held at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home- Taylor Chapel in Farmington on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 4pm until 8pm. Memorial visitation will resume on Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 9am until the time of a Celebration of Life at 11am at the C.Z. Boyer & Son - Taylor Chapel in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, Charles’ family would appreciate you doing something nice for someone.
