Carmen Selzer Higgins, a beacon of strength and kindness, was born on Wednesday, April 14, 1971, in Farmington, Missouri. She peacefully left this world on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Carmen was welcomed into heaven by her beloved parents, Pete and Joy Selzer, her brother Pete Selzer, her cherished grandparents, her best friend Michelle, and her stepfather Harold Thurston.
Carmen courageously battled ovarian cancer for nearly three years, always wearing a smile and showing grace in every moment. Despite her struggles, she remained a source of joy and support for others. She worked with dedication as a Personal Care Aid at the St. Francois County Board of the Developmentally Disabled and later at Greater Heights Adult Daycare, where her love for her clients, their families, and her coworkers shone through in everything she did.
A devoted mother to Madison (McKinley) Weiss, Destiny Higgins, and Bailea Higgins, Carmen found her greatest joy in her role as a mother. The wife of Dewayne C. Higgins. She shared a special bond with her sister Tracy (Rob) Burns, who was not just her sister but also her very best friend. Carmen’s grandchildren were her reason to fight, bringing boundless happiness into her life. She doted on Lileigh, Zander, and Luci Nohren, Ollie Nohren, Tyler and Neveah Henslee, Cedric, and Lincoln Weiss. She also loved her special niece Casey Burns and her Partner Scott, along with her nephew Rion Burns and his partner Laura.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Legacy Hospice, especially Mary, Angela, Kendra, and Debbie, for their unwavering support and care. Carmen will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
