Bette Songer

Bette Jean (McWilliams) Songer, of Park Hills passed away December 2, 2017 at her daughter’s residence in Goose Creek, SC at the age of 89. Bette was born March 24, 1928 in Esther, MO to the late Leo McWilliams and Blanche (Kennon) McWilliams. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Albert L. Marler; longtime companion, Arlie Songer and dear friend, Tom Garrett of Bonne Terre. She was also preceded in death by her son, Albert Gene Marler; daughter, Tiffani An Pierson and son-in-law, Jerry Lanier.

Bette leaves to mourn her passing, four children, Carol Brunson, Candice Seaman, Bruce Marler all of Park Hills, MO and Cheryl (Frank) Vallie of Goose Creek, SC; eleven grandchildren, Annette Mayberry, Jason Wisdom, Michael Smith, Crissy Smith, James (Jimmy) Downs III, Jesse Prier, Sean Prier, Hunter Prier-Marler, Kira ProStatus, Logan Vallie and Kyle Vallie; eleven great-grandchildren, Ronald Kinney, Josh Kinney, Christopher Kinney, Brian Thomas, Belle Wisdom, Kylah Wisdom, Avery Wisdom, Shyanne Smith-Hotchkiss, Destiny Smith, Autumn Prier and Forrest Prier; two great-great-grandchildren, Julian Kinney and Mavven Kinney; four siblings, JD McWilliams, Shirley Langley, Carroll McWilliams and Wanda Merritt. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her dearest neighbor, Linda Macklin also survive.

She loved going to auctions and yard sales, spending time with family camping, making quilts, collecting cookbooks, going night crawler hunting, working puzzles and playing Bingo.

She will lie in state at the C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home Caldwell Chapel located at 711 E. Main Street in Park Hills, MO 63601 on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 6:00 PM, with a remembrance social to follow until 9:00 PM.
