Babette Lea Poston

Babette was born October 24, 1956 and, at the age of 59, went to heaven on July 17, 2016. She was the daughter of Marvin and Ernestine Poston, who preceded her in death.

Babette has two sisters, Lana Jinkerson of Hillsboro and Janice (Mrs. Bob) Mason of Terre Du Lac, two nieces and a nephew: Marla (Mrs. Jason) Brunk of Fenton, Aaron Lawson of Colorado, and Amy Lawson of Park Hills. Special friends Suzy Phillips, Ferrell Hockemeier, and Tom and Kathy Ryan, all of Kansas City, her art mentor/instructor and life-long friend Ann Hampton, of Irondale, Bernard Laiben of Festus, The Wallen Family, many cousins who loved her dearly and many former students who chose to remain in contact with her many years after graduation. Special neighbors Dave, Sharon and Wanda who lovingly assisted her in these last few years of illness. She was honored to have many other life-long friends and loving pets (Runt and Joey, who preceded her in death, and Gracie).

Babette was 1975 graduate of West County High School in Leadwood, MO. Received dual baccalaureate degrees in Commercial and Fine Arts and her Master's Degree from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Missouri. She was a published illustrator, recipient of several commercial art awards, and master fine arts instructor. She began her career teaching art and coaching volleyball at the Wellington school district, and, for the last 20 years, taught art at Truman High School, Independence, Mo. She volunteered many hours for the Historical Museum of Leadwood.

At the age of 13, Babette chose to become a member of the Leadwood Methodist Church and, after college through the present, was active member of the Baptist church. She was a devoted mentor/disciple for many in her Baptist faith. Hundreds enjoyed her annual gift of unique Christmas cards depicting events in the lives of her family members, friends and fellow church members through her artistic renderings.

She was admired and loved by so very many and, until we meet again, will be missed by all.

Babette’s memorial visitation, will be held at Leadwood United Methodist Church, Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM. The memorial service will follow immediately at 6:00 PM, with Rev. Padre Payne officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home.
