Sgt. Major Richard "Pop" Lammert

Sgt. Major Richard “Pop” Lammert, 82, of Park Hills, passed away April 11, 2023, at his home surrounded by family and friends.  He was born January 27, 1941, in St. Louis, to the late Alphonse and Margaret (Loida) Lammert and later served his country in the United States Army.  Sgt. Major Richard Lammert retired after 34 years of active duty in the National Guard.  He was known to everyone as “Pop” and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Park Hills and VFW Post 5896 in Farmington.  He enjoyed making bird feeders and model trains, which you would find around the Christmas tree.  Pop could build or make just about anything and if your tools were laid out, that would give him the urge to start building something.  He was always happy and loved being around his family, but very strong about his politics and faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Sharon (Gruender) Lammert; daughter, Sue Anne Johns-Clark; grandson, Samuel Vaughn; siblings, Lawrence Lammert and wife Arlene, Delores Theiss, Donald Lammert and Bernadette Lammert.

Pop was survived by his loving wife, Donna (Short) Lammert; children, Linda Rhodes and husband Ron, Donald Johns, Kathy (Ed) Wichman, Tom Johns and wife Dee Dee; step-sons, Troy Jones and wife Jan, Trent Jones and wife Robyn, Toby Jones and wife Christal, Teddy Jones and wife Ellie, Terry Jones and wife Carrie; twenty-three grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; sister in-law, Janet Lammert; brother in-law, Virgil Theiss; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, also survive.  A special thanks to all the nurses and caregivers at Preferred Hospice.

Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.  A short service will follow the visitation with Pastor John Canterberry and Chaplain Bob Crecelius officiating.  The funeral mass will be held Friday, April 14, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Park Hills, with Father Larry Huber officiating.  Interment will follow at Adams Cemetery in Frankclay.  Memorials may be directed to the Farmington Pet Adoption in Farmington, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
