Donna Ann Barton

Donna Ann (Rosener) Barton, age 75, of Bonne Terre, passed away peacefully Monday, March 20, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Donna was born in Bonne Terre, Tuesday, June 17, 1947 to the late Wyman and Irene (Newcomer) Rosener.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings William Rosener, Samuel Rosener, Willard Rosener, Ray Rosener, Margaret Scott, and Bernice Martin.

Donna is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, James “Red” Barton; daughter, Lisa (Rob) Sigman; grandson, and light of her life, James “Jamie” Sigman; sister, Virginia (Sam) Litton; and sister-in-law, Fern Rosener. In addition to her family, she is survived by Torie (Doke) Young who Donna served as an extra momma for 43 years, and her special friend and constant companion for the last weeks of her life, Pat Hart. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and clients too numerous to count.

Donna was a beautician in Bonne Terre for over 50 years, owning Donna Ann’s Beauty Shop the majority of that time. If you didn’t get your haircut, styled, colored or permed at Donna Ann’s you knew someone who did.  Donna loved being a beautician. She would work long hours even when she didn’t feel well, she knew her clients counted on her to look their best.  Many times, through the years family and friends would encourage Donna to raise her service prices to match other area stylists and Donna would always reply, “No, so many of my clients are on a fixed income and they would no longer be able to afford to get their hair fixed.” Donna would volunteer to cut hair at back-to-school events so that every child, no matter what their circumstances might be, would look good for the first day of school.

Donna volunteered for many years with the Cancer Society’s “Look Great Feel Better” program as a beautician representative.  She received special training in wig fitting and makeup application in order to teach women the skills to look and feel better. Donna will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Through the years Donna worked tirelessly on the St. Francois County Relay for Life, serving on multiple committees.  Her and her friend, Carolyn Tyler, co-captained the “License to Cut Cancer” Relay team for countless years, often standing out as the team that raised the most money.

When Donna was not busy making the ladies and some gentleman of the area look their best, she would enjoy vacationing, going on cruises, shopping with Lisa, and Zumba class with her friend Char, and her beautiful flowers (that she took full credit for, although her husband, Red, planted and watered them) but all of these failed in comparison the day her one and only grandson, that she affectionately called “Jamesy”, was born.  From that moment on she put the phrase, “doating grandmother” to shame.  Jamie was the light in her eyes, heart, soul and her life. Accompanying him on trips, attending every sporting event, concert, parade, school function, and secretly funding anything his heart desired.  Grandma spoiled Jamie to say the least.  But they shared the kind of special love and bond that one does not often witness.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to an amazing woman who has meant so much to so many.

Everyday angels roam amongst us; this we know is true. Donna, wife, mother, grandma, and friend, our angel now is you.
